Cory Glauner of Webdog Services was recently interviewed by Tom Sorenson of Base Camp Legends about why, what, and how to start your own blog – and more particularly, a blog about the outdoors. While this interview is geared toward the outdoor industry, the information pertains to blogging in general.
Starting Your Blog
1. Decide What You Want To Write About
There are a lot of bloggers on the web already. If you want to attract readers, you are going to need to establish your credibility. Don’t just write about anything. Pick a topic you are are passionate about. Something that you have lots of experience with. In my case , it was hunting. It is something I am passionate and know a lot about.
2. Find a Domain Name
For me this part is fun. You know what your theme is already, so now you have to find and register a good domain name. Be sure to be smart about the keywords in your domain name, and register it for multiple years. That will help you in the Search Engines.
3. Find a Web Host for Your Blog
By far, the easiest way to get a website is to go with a hosting company with a personal touch, where you can actually talk to a real person. I don’t suggest going the free or super cheap route. You get what you pay for.
4. Designing your Blog
I suggest having a Web Development company customize a WordPress theme for you. We specialize in this here at Webdog and we are very affordable. Be sure to have us give you a free consultation. I think you’ll be surprised.
5. Start Writing
This is the fun part. Write good, well thought out content, participate in Social Media and cross-promote with other bloggers. Be patient, the readers will come.
